lifegurard buoyThere is certain equipment always used that is not dependent on the job type and environment of the lifeguard. In most areas around the world standard issue will be a whistle for getting attention, a CPR rescue mask to aid resuscitation should it be needed, a basic first aid kit, a rescue buoy to aid buoyancy in retrieving the troubled swimmer and a watch.  There will also be equipment stored for the lifeguard to use including a large first aid kit, a megaphone, an automated external defibrillator, oxygen tanks and reaching poles for retrieving objects out of the water.  Ocean lifeguards do also tend to have the use of personal watercraft to aid in the rescue of any victims and often underwater scuba equipment.

In beach life guarding there will be an individual tower which is staffed with one or more guards and they are responsible for a certain stretch of the beach. These raised towers allow them to have a good clear view of the area unobstructed by the general public. Some areas of the world these towers even have there own power source generators to ensure full working capacity at all times.

No matter whether it is a beach or pool situation, the equipment is an essential part of the job and must be maintained to high standard to ensure that should the situation arise where they need to be used then they are all in full working order.
